WARNING: This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen. The battle between Toji Fushiguro and Gojo Satoru was a sight to behold! Not a pleasant one, but the way Gojo was thumped by Toji was something really new for Gojo fans. Despite all the confidence that Gojo always carries with him to battle, Toji smacked all that confidence in no time and left the so-called strongest Sorcerer with wounds that could never leave a mortal being alive. From slashes on his chest to his neck, Toji left Gojo’s body open with his deadly Inverted Spear of Heaven and left him on the floor to die.
Toji then went to Suguru Geto, killed Riko Amanai, defeated Geto, and completed the mission given to him by the Star Religious Group. However, when Toji felt everything was settled and he was leaving the meeting spot, he faces Gojo Satoru yet again, and this time, his appearance looked sinister, and the tension filled the air. Gojo is revealed to be as fresh as a lime and ready to battle the Sorcerer Killer once again. The condition in which Toji left Gojo was definitely not something from which he could ever be revived naturally, so how exactly did he heal himself so quickly?
How Did Gojo Satoru Survive Toji Fushiguro’s Attack?
The secret magic behind Gojo’s revival is known as Reverse Cursed Technique, a special technique within the Jujutsu Kaisen world that can heal severe to severe wounds once activated by the user. As explained in the episode itself, Reverse Cursed Technique works by turning the massive collection of two batches of Cursed Energy into positive energy. So while Cursed Energy has a negative nature and is used to cause vast destruction or to kill opponents, when turned into positive energy, the same energy is used for healing purposes. A simple mathematic rule is used within the series to explain the process, Cursed Energy (-) X Cursed Energy (-) = Reverse Cursed Technique (+).
The explanation of Reversed Cursed Technique with the mathematic rule might make it sound like a simple technique that every Sorcerer could use. However, there’s no other technique that’s more twisted than RCT. Firstly, RCT makes use of a massive amount of Cursed Energy, and secondly, its continuous use hits the brain directly. This could lead to the destruction of that part of the brain where the Cursed Technique is stored, making the Sorcerer helpless in the battle and leaving them with no offense technique. Even someone like Gojo, who has insurmountable storage of Cursed Energy, wasn’t able to use his Cursed Technique for long after recovering from injuries a few times using RCT (later in the series during his battle with Sukuna).
Who Are All The Reverse Cursed Technique Users In Jujutsu Kaisen?
- Gojo Satoru
- Ryomen Sukuna
- Shoko Leiri
- Yuta Okkotsu
- Lori Hanezoki
- Kenjaku
- Kinji Hakari
- Uraume
All these Sorcerers can use Reverse Cursed Technique in Jujutsu Kaisen; however, the conditions for their use and the extent of their potential vary significantly. For instance, most users can use RCT only to heal themselves, which is truly impressive, but some selected Sorcerers like Shoko Leiri, Sukuna, and Kenjaku can use the technique to heal themselves and others.
How Can A Reverse Curse Technique User Be Killed?
RCT users have a massive advantage over other Sorcerers, but this doesn’t mean they are immortal. As stated before, Reverse Cursed Technique has a direct link to the Sorcerer’s brain, as compared to the normal CE that flows from the stomach. So the easiest and the confirmed way to kill an RCT user is by destroying their brain completely. If Toji Fushiguro had pierced the Inverted Spear of Heaven into Gojo’s head and opened it up completely, there’s no way he could have recovered from the damage using RCT.
Another way to kill an RCT user is by poisoning them, as the energy used to take the poison out of the body would be too much, and the user might die as soon as their energy store is exhausted. Also, the skills for using RCT should be really incredible for taking the poison out of the body. But poisoning is still not the sure-shot way to kill an RCT user.
