While some Curses can be dispatched with a few well-placed punches and kicks, others demand the utmost sacrifice from even the most exceptional sorcerers. Throughout the journey of Jujutsu Kaisen, we have encountered numerous formidable Curses, each strengthening the narrative in its own way. If you find yourself pondering which among them reigns supreme in terms of power, here are the ten most potent Curses to have graced the dark universe of Jujutsu Kaisen.

10 Eso

The Death Painting Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen introduced us to Eso, a formidable curse whose presence haunted us in the first season of the series. While his brother Choso becomes a prominent supporting character, Eso remains one of the most powerful curses encountered thus far. With his towering and dark appearance, Eso embodies sadism, posing a relentless nuisance for the sorcerers throughout the first season.

Eso was considered a valuable asset by Mahito to carry on his heinous plans. However, Eso’s reign of terror didn’t last long, as he was defeated at the hands of Jujutsu High in the last episodes of the first season. However, his supreme power levers might still give nightmares to Yuji and Nobara.

9 Naoya Zenin

Naoya, a formidable character in Jujutsu Kaisen, has yet to make his appearance in the anime series. However, his introduction to the manga in chapter 138 marked the arrival of a powerful villain. As a member of the Zenin family, Naoya’s strength is undeniable, and his direct affiliations include Maki, Mai, Toji Fushiguro, and Megumi.

In the manga, Naoya engaged in a fierce battle against our heroes, where their combined strength struggled to overcome him. In his Cursed Womb state, Naoya even brought mighty sorcerers like Maki and Choso to their knees, nearly killing them. It comes as no surprise when someone born into one of the Big Three Sorcerer families displays such power.

8 Finger Bearer

In the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, we encountered a fearsome Curse known as the Finger Bearer. As the Curse devoured one of Sukuna’s mighty fingers, a simple Curse like Finger Bearer transformed into a terrifying monster wielding unimaginable power. Despite being one of the initial Curses we encountered, the Finger Bearer left a lasting impression with its chilling abilities and appearance.

However, its reign came to an end when it faced the power of Megumi. Using his Divine Dog: Totality technique, Megumi exorcised the Curse, putting an end to its menacing presence. Interestingly, the very same finger was later consumed by Yuji Itadori, turning him into the vessel of Sukuna himself.

7 Choso

Choso, one of the enigmatic Cursed Womb: Death Paintings, possesses a calm and reserved personality, preferring to keep his distance from others and avoid unnecessary conflicts. But his battles are nothing short of spectacular. As a master of Blood Manipulation, his abilities, like Wing King and Blood Meteorite, strike fear into his opponents.

Combined with his strategic battle intellect, Choso becomes an unstoppable force, nearly defeating powerful Curses multiple times. His gripping battle against Kenjaku showcased his exceptional caliber, even though he was ultimately overpowered. Choso’s high intellect and deadly skills brought him close to victory several times in the battle.

6 Kurorushi

Within Kenjaku’s collection of sinister Cursed Spirits, one particularly grotesque entity stands out — Kurorushi. Resembling a cockroach in appearance, Kurorushi possesses an insatiable appetite for humans, making it a relentless killer. Its affinity for iron is the reason for its deadly nature, leading to the unnecessary demise of countless individuals.

As a cockroach Cursed Spirit, Kurorushi has the ability to summon an overwhelming swarm of cockroaches that attack in unison, capable of dispatching even the most formidable sorcerers within seconds. Adding to its arsenal of dirty tricks, Kurorushi can release a liquid substance from an insect it summons, effectively disturbing its opponents’ vision. Furthermore, its Festering Life Sword possesses the ability to lay insect eggs within a human host.

5 Hanami

Hanami’s epic battle with Yuji and Aoi is still the talk of the town in Jujutsu Kaisen. Not only did it show off the combined powers of these two sorcerers, but it also revealed the most epic bromance ever in the world of anime. Hanami’s insane abilities had Maki and Megumi shaking in their boots, but thankfully, Yuji and Aoi showed up just in the nick of time. Let’s just say it was a close call for our heroes.

With plant-based moves like Wooden Ball, Disaster Plants, and Cursed Bud, Hanami definitely left an unforgettable mark as one of the strongest curses in the series. But in the end, Hanami met its demise at the hands of Aoi and Yuji.

4 Jogo

Jogo, with his fiery powers and a head like a volcanic mountain, would have been a real pain for other sorcerers if it weren’t for the Strongest Sorcerer alive, Gojo. But luck wasn’t on Jogo’s side when he crossed paths with Gojo, who handled him like a child playing with a toy and battled the Curse while mentoring Yuji on how to deal with Curses.

Despite the one-sided nature of the battle, it was still one of the most thrilling fights we’ve seen in the anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen. Jogo’s fire-based abilities, from heat waves to volcanic eruptions, summoning insects and meteors, were only matched by the extraordinary powers of Gojo. It was a showdown that left us wanting more.

3 Mahito

Now it’s time to talk about Jujutsu Kaisen’s most sinister Curse and the primary antagonist of the first season: Mahito. With a ruthless personality, Mahito views humans as nothing more than bothersome pests that deserve merciless eradication. Not only does he possess one of the most formidable Cursed Techniques known as Idle Transfiguration, but he also excels at psychological manipulation, often staying one step ahead of his adversaries.

As a user of Idle Transfiguration, Mahito holds the power to reshape the souls and bodies of those he touches, bending them to his will. This ability also grants him self-healing capabilities, the summoning of clones, and the creation of weapons. The intense battles he waged against Yuji and Nanami throughout the first season of the series showcased his overwhelming power.

2 Rika

The precious bond between Rika and Yuta never ended, even when the former was turned into a Cursed Spirit. Despite being a Curse, Rika fought for humanity, never leaving Yuta’s side. Although Yuta himself is powerful enough to fend off most adversaries he deals with; he summons Yuta when things get out of his hands. Sometimes, Rika summons herself without Yuji calling for her when she thinks he is in grave danger.

Also known as the Queen of Curses, Yuji and Rika connect using a ring, and the latter allows the former to use her overflowing supply of Cursed Energy which even surpasses that of Gojo’s. From copying the opponent’s techniques to unleashing Cursed Energy Blasts and storage of Cursed Tools, there’s a lot that Rika can do.

1 Sukuna

Finally, who else but the King of Curses, the Disgraced One, the Curse from thousand years ago, could be the primary villain of the series? Sukuna’s mere name is enough to instill fear in the hearts of even the strongest Sorcerers. Sukuna’s power level is to such an extent that he is debatably considered even more powerful than the strongest Sorcerer, Gojo.

While his ultimate powers are yet to be witnessed, we have seen him battle using Yuji’s body as a vessel. But, our young Yuji is the most imperfect vessel that Sukuna could wish for. However, in the manga, Sukuna is now inside Megumi’s body, much stronger and with much more control of the vessel, revealing why he is the ultimate villain.
