The left-arm pacer said that a lot of people, including the players, associated with the IPL have been able to earn their livelihood because of the popular tournament even as other businesses continue to suffer due to lockdowns, curfews and the crisis situation in general in the country.

Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat backed the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 to continue despite the worsening situation related to the coronavirus pandemic in India as it provides livelihood to thousands of people associated with the cash-rich tournament.
IPL 2021, which is being played in a bio-bubble for the second year in a row, has already seen 5 players withdraw from the league mid-way into the season due to personal reasons.
Rajasthan Royals’ Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone have already gone back home to Australia and England respectively, while Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Aussie recruits Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa have also pulled out and gone home. Delhi Capitals’ Ravichandran Ashwin has decided to take a break from IPL 2021 as he wants to support his family in the fight against the virus.
Calls have been growing louder for the IPL 2021, which began on April 9, to be halted as India continues to lead the list of countries worst-hit by the pandemic. But Unadkat is not in favour of the stopping the league.
The left-arm pacer said that a lot of people, including the players, associated with the IPL have been able to earn their livelihoods because of the popular tournament even as other businesses continue to suffer due to the lockdowns and curfews put in place due to the crisis situation.
“The IPL is not entertainment. There is no entertainment this year whatsoever. It’s work for us. It’s our livelihood and also helps thousands who are part of the ecosystem.”
“My family was infected and I did what all of us are doing. Tried getting them medicines and medical help. We are in this together. If we can spread the message using our platform as cricketers that’s our way to help. We can’t be doctors. But we can def be helpers,” Unadkat told Sports Today in an exclusive interview.
