Interns to promote consumption of millets among urban mass – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Friday launched the Urban Internship Programme for promotion of millet consumption in different forms among the urban consumers. The interns, mostly students from universities, will propagate health benefits of millets among the consumers and study consumer behaviours with regards to millet consumption.

Interns will be engaged in promotion of millets in urban areas in four target cities- Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur and Rourkela. Interns are responsible for setting up movable canopy stalls and organizing cooking events on various millet recipes in the selected prime locations of the cities for promotion of millet-based products.

The interns will engage with various stakeholders like urban households, students, government officials and young professionals. They will take Odisha Millets Mission to millions, said a government officer.

Duration of the internship is 45 days. Students from Utkal University, NIT Rourkela and other institutions will take part in the programme. They will be required to display and sell various millets-based products in the canopy stall and spread the health benefits of millets among the urban consumers. They will explain various millet recipes and convince the customers for millet consumption.

According to the plan, the interns will spread the health benefits of millets among the urban consumers, spread the objectives of Odisha Millets Mission, take customers feedback and conduct a market survey and submit a report at the end of the programme.

Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have nine targeted locations each where interns will erect canopy and use e-Cart and millets on wheels for selling of cookies, namkeens, sweet, hot cooked snacks made of millets. While Bhubaneswar will get three stalls, Cuttack will get one.

The locations are Khandagiri Square, Infocity, Master Canteen, Saheed Nagar (near Bhawani Mall), Unit 2 (near Kesari Mall), near IDCO Exhibition Ground, Patia/KIIT Square, Kalpana Square area and CRP Square area. In the capital city, the interns will help in instant preparation and serving in one stall and cooked by self-help groups (SHG) serve to other two stalls.

In Rourkela, seven places have been approved for promotion work. The number of approved locations in Berhampur is five.
