Indian students enrolled in foreign universities seek early redressal on travel ban – Times of India

In view of the problems being faced by the Indian students studying in foreign countries who are stuck in the home country, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has asked them to send their coordinates (email ID and mobile number) to Overseas Indian Affairs (OIA) – II division of the ministry.

The move has been welcomed by students who are struggling with problems related to travel ban and visa issues. “Besides corona restrictions and mobility issues, the ministry has been getting mails seeking redressal of queries related to visa, online-offline education etc,” says an MEA official on condition of anonymity. This move will help us create an updated data base of students studying in foreign countries, he adds.

MEA has asked students to send their coordinates to OIA-II Division at emails:

While the MEA is receiving queries from students and other business travellers, the MEA is in the process of segregating the messages and emails. “It is too early to comment on exact number of students seeking MEA’s help for their study abroad plan. We are hoping to get more emails from students stuck in India as the ministry has shared an email id on June 5,” adds the official.

The official also claims that some of the students studying medicine in foreign countries where it is taught in their native language have also sought MEA’s help in conduct of Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) in foreign language too. Currently, FMGE is conducted only in English, which should be conducted in foreign languages too.

Several students studying in Germany have been connecting with MEA on its Twitter handle requesting them to make arrangement for their travel. Most students are expected to join the university by July. It is being speculated that more than 4000 students are stuck in India due to travel ban imposed by the German government.

Students are also requesting to start flights with China or make air bubble agreement to ensure mobility of those who are enrolled in various academic institutions in China. The current situation has made students to study remotely.
