On January 12, Hideo Kojima teased a new project through Twitter, and it feels like we’ve written this exact same article a dozen times since 2019 – so we decided to look back and track down every single tease and game ideas shared by Kojima since Death Stranding.

Death Stranding was first released on November 8, 2019, as the first ever game from Kojima Productions. Since then, Hideo Kojima has been teasing numerous projects. Hopefully 2022 will be the year where some of these projects are fully revealed.

Teasers shared by Hideo Kojima in 2020

In January 2020, Hideo Kojima together with illustrator Yoji Shinkawa teased multiple projects. Including how they’d like to make a manga, something like an anime, movies, and several games: one big game and smaller, episodic games. In particular, Kojima said he wanted to make something mecha related so Yoji Shinkawa could design some new machines as there weren’t enough in Death Stranding.

In April 2020, in an interview with Bafta, Kojima teased he’d like to make a new horror game. He brought it up when discussing the cancellation of P.T., the Silent Hills project. with Guillermo del Toro.

In May 2020, Hideo Kojima teased in an interview that one of his future games was in early planning phase. He also revealed that another project got canceled.

In the industry, it’s pretty common for projects to get canceled very early in development. Without even being publicly announced. This is probably one of the reasons why Death Stranding is still the sole game Kojima Productions has announced (and released) so far.

Death Stranding 2 potential teaser

In June 2020, Hideo Kojima teased to be working on new concept art. One of the drafts on the photos he shared included the “Bridges” company name. Which led many fans to believe he was working on a Death Stranding sequel. However, Kojima Productions never announced a sequel so far.

While technically not from Hideo Kojima himself, another teaser surfaced in July 2020. Horror mangaka Junji Ito said that Kojima might be working on a horror game judging from a discussion he had with him.

In October 2020, Kojima Productions officially announced to be working on a new project. Kojima Productions started hiring for this new project back then. Things got quieter past that point until mid 2021.

Teasers shared by Hideo Kojima in 2021 – 2022

In August 2021, after playing 12 Minutes, Hideo Kojima got inspired and teased he’d also like to make a new Adventure game. Kojima worked on several Adventure games in the past such as Snatcher, Policenauts and the Tokimeki Memorial Drama Series on Sega Saturn.

On January 6, 2022, Hideo Kojima teased on a Japanese radio show that he’s working on a big AAA game and an anime.

And now, on January 12, Hideo Kojima teased a new project on Twitter. He shared a photo of a monitor with a folder named 新企画 “new project” in Japanese.

There you have it. All the teasers shared by Hideo Kojima since the release of Death Stranding.

Needless to say, every single teaser isn’t necessarily about a different project. But we know for sure that Hideo Kojima is working on several games one of which is an AAA, an anime, this new project teased on January 12, and possibly manga or movie projects.

If you believe we’ve overlooked one of Kojima’s recent teasers be sure to notify us in the comments.
