On the occasion of Guru Purnima today, celebs pay homage to their academic and spiritual teachers, who gave them direction, prepared them for the journey ahead and made them a better human being
Mother was my first guru: Jai Singh
My first guru is my mother. My second guru who changed my life in my mid-20s is Yashraj Jadhav, who was the dean at Anupam Kher’s acting academy. He inspired me to chase my acting dreams. I owe my life to my mother and my career to Yashraj sir.
Because he believed in me: Rohitashv Gour
I would like to mention renowned director and dramatist Ranjit Kapoor. I pay my due respect to him for the significant role he has played in my life and career. My journey at the National School of Drama was fruitful because of him. He considered me for so many plays he directed. Working with him was a learning experience.
Barry John, my mentor: Kamna Pathak
I consider theatre stalwart Barry John my mentor and my guru. He was the one who guided me in times of doubt and allowed me to be the best version of myself. I was always interested in theatre, but to get into the specifics of technique was a challenge. Whatever I learnt about acting was through him.
Collecting wisdom from everyone: Nikkiey Chawla
I have had many teachers in my life, for instance watching Madhuri Dixit perform, gave me confidence and made me capable of dance. Then my mother, Nisha Chawla, she always taught me to be honest, clean hearted and to be very cautious about karma. My teacher, Vidya Tikari, who encouraged me to be strong enough to make my own decision, is also my guru. They are the reasons why I have reached till here today.
Mom’s lessons keep me going: Parull Chaudhry
My mother is my guru and I have learnt everything from her. She keeps on telling me to never give up on my dreams, keep working hard, be a good human being, help others without expectations and that karma takes care of everything. These lessons from her keep me going.
Time is the greatest guru: Mahreen Khan
There have been many people in my life in different stages but almost all of them have helped me throughout my life and career. I have been surrounded by strong women and that has shaped me well. Also, I think time is the greatest guru anybody can have. It gives you life’s lessons.
