Google’s annual recap of what topped searches on the platform is out. Like every year, Google’s ‘Year in Search’ for 2021, lists the topics, trends, personalities, news and more that people searched for during the year. And as ‘Year in Search 2021’ shows, Indians’ love for cricket is reflected in online searches not only in the country, but globally too. While IPL 2021 led Google searches in India, searches related to India-Australia cricket series topped globally during the year 2021. Other than India-Australia series, India-England series too ranked in the top 5.
Every year, Google’s ‘Year in Search’ revisits the top search trends of the year in India and across 70 other countries.Google says that the ‘Year in Search’ offers an unique perspective to the most trending moments in news, entertainment, sports and other topics for which users around the world look forward to Google Search
What the world googled in 2021?
Cricket kept on leading the charts this year which also included basketball (in the form of NBA) and football (in the form of Euro Cup). The most searched news topic list was topped by the Talibani takeover of Afghanistan, followed by the AMC stock and the Covid Vaccination drive. The list also included a cryptocurrency named Dogecoin and the GME stock.
Most searched actors and athletes
Alec Baldwin had a year full of horrific events that made him top the most searched actor list and was followed by Pete Davidson who got the spotlight after his relationship with Kim Kardashian. The list then included Aryan Khan after his raffle with the NCB and was followed by Gina Carano who got fame from hollywood movies like the Fast and the Furious. The final contender of the list is American actor Armie Hammer.
The most searched athlete list is topped by Danish football player Christian Eriksen and was followed by the famous American golfer Tiger Woods. The third place was taken by american gymnast Simone Biles and was followed by british tennis player Emma Raducanu. The last place of this list was occupied by American footballer Henry Ruggs III.
Most searched Food and Games
The most searched food this year was Birria tacos which was followed by Nasi goreng and Feta Pasta. The last two places were taken by Charcuterie board and the Japanese dish Shogayaki.
The most searched games list was topped by PopCat and which was then followed by FIFA 22 and Battlefield 2042. The fourth place on this list was taken by Monster Hunter Rise and was finally followed by Resident Evil Village.
Most searched Movies, TV shows and Songs
The most searched movie list this year is topped by the Eternals, followed by Black Widow and Dune. The fourth place in this list was claimed by Shang-Chi and the Legends of Ten Rings which was followed by Red Notice.
The most searched TV show of the year list included two Marvel productions and the list was topped by Squid Games, followed by Bridgerton, WandVision, Cobra Kai and Loki.
The most searched song of the year is Drivers license by Olivia Rodrigo and was followed by Montero (Call me by your name) by Lil Nas X. The third song in this list was claimed by another Lil Nas X song named industry baby which also featured Jack Harlow and was followed by Fancy Like by Walker Hayes along with MAPA by SB19 claiming the fifth position
Most searched sports teams
The most searched sports team list only included football clubs and was topped by Real Madrid.and was followed by Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. The fourth place was claimed by FC Barcelona and was followed by Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.
