Google has made an important announcement via its Google Workspace Updates blog. Google Docs, the company’s document creation and management application, can now import and create documents that contain images above or behind the text. So, suppose you want to import or export a Microsoft Word document, the new feature would help you do it. This is a small update but a quite needed one that adds one more layer of functionality to Google Docs.
The new feature can be accessed by going to the image options sidebar and through the image toolbar when you click on the image.
Google has started rolling out the feature to Docs and it should become available within a week or two if it hasn’t arrived yet. Besides the personal accounts, the feature would be available to “Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus, as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits customers.”
Google Docs is slowly shaping up into a worthy rival to Microsoft Word, and all the better as it is free for personal use. Going by how slow Microsoft can be when it comes to releasing new features, it seems Google Docs can run past MS Word in the future.
