google assistant: Google to shut down Android Auto mobile app – Times of India

Google is finally pulling the plug on Android Auto mobile app for all the Android users, irrespective of the OS version.

Google is finally pulling the plug on Android Auto mobile app for all the Android users, irrespective of the OS version. About a year ago, the tech giant had killed off the service for Android 12 users.
The app is still there but things have changed when you open it. Now, if users of older Android versions try to access the app, the following message would greet them: “Android Auto for phone screens will stop working soon”. As you’ll be able to see in the message, Google has not made clear the date on which it will stop its service.
To still avail of the service, users will now have to switch to Google Assistant’s driving mode.
Google confirmed to 9to5Google in a statement that it will end Android Auto on phone screens:
“For the people who use Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience isn’t going away — and in fact we announced an upcoming major UI improvement recently at Google I/O. For those who use the on phone experience (Android Auto mobile app), they will be transitioned to Google Assistant driving mode which is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. We have no further details to share at this time.”
While the Google Assistant’s driving mode can not be said to be as efficient as Android Auto in certain areas, we expect Google to make it better with upcoming updates. It seems to be the future for now.
