Good Samaritan alerts residents of house on fire in the Greenwood neighborhood – Fire Line

Seattle — Just before 5 p.m., a Good Samaritan was on his way home from work via Aurora Ave. N. when he saw a column of black smoke coming from a residence at the 900 block of N. 87th St. He drove up to the residence, got out of his truck and started yelling for help. Fortunately, neighbors heard his pleas and called 911 to report the fire.

The Good Samaritan pounded on the front door to alert residents of the fire, then grabbed a charged garden hose to attempt to knock down the flames on the porch. Two residents evacuated through the front door and reported no injuries. Firefighters arrived on scene by 5:03 p.m. and worked quickly to knock down the exterior fire. As crews made their way inside they found a dog and carried it to safety. They did a quick evaluation and confirmed the dog was unharmed.

Firefighters searched the entire home to confirm no other occupants were inside. The fire extended through much of the first-floor with flames breaching most of the windows. At 5:34 p.m., crews had the fire under control, then fully extinguished by 7:11 p.m.

We’d like to thank the Good Samaritan for his quick action in alerting the residents and neighbors of the fire. His efforts made a difference in saving their lives.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
