The deal comes as Olaf Scholz makes the second stop in his weekend trip. On Saturday, he was in Saudi Arabia and, after the United Arab Emirates, he’s slated to head to Qatar. He’s accompanied by a delegation that includes the chief executive officers of ThyssenKrupp AG, SAP, Airbus and Siemens Energy.
Under the agreement announced Sunday, ADNOC is expected to deliver the gas to RWE AG as soon as late December. More deliveries will be made next year. The amount of gas wasn’t specified.
“We must ensure that the coalition on liquefied natural gas in the world is advancing to the point where the high demand can be met,” Scholz said in Abu Dhabi.

The deal is a boost for Scholz as the government struggles to offset Russian deliveries after the Kremlin shut down a key pipeline. Officials have grown increasingly concerned about blackouts and rationing this winter, and the economy is hurtling toward a recession.
In Qatar, Scholz and the nation’s emir are expected to discuss long-term plans for shipments of gas and hydrogen. Qatar’s energy minister said Saturday that talks with RWE and Uniper SE for long-term LNG contracts are ongoing.
