Gamora Actress Confirms She’s Done With Marvel, But Teases More Guardians of the Galaxy

Zoe Saldana has confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be her final outing in the MCU as Gamora, though she hinted that it might not necessarily mark the end of the road for the Guardians.

The actress hadn’t expected to play Gamora beyond the first Guardians movie and feels now is the right time to step away from the role. In fact, she told The Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming third and final installment of James Gunn’s trilogy would be her swansong in the MCU.

“I don’t think this is the end for the Guardians,” Saldana teased before asserting, “It is the end for me, for Gamora.”

Saldana has played Gamora in four Marvel movies since 2014, and she will next be seen reprising the role in Guardians 3. She said she “thanked James for just his time and his patience and his guidance and his friendship” on her last day of filming with the Guardians cast and crew.

Dave Bautista shared a similar sentiment over his Guardians role earlier this year, expressing a desire to move on to more dramatic roles after his tenure as Drax ends. He noted that he and his co-stars signed up for a trilogy and that Gunn had crafted the “perfect exit” for the current team.

Gunn has also said this is the last time we will see this team of Guardians together. “This is the end for us,” he told Deadline last year. “I just want to be true to the characters, and I want to be true to the story, and I want to give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story.”

He called the upcoming Guardians movie a torturous and emotional farewell compared to the more cheerful Disney+ Holiday Special, though the seasonal short shouldn’t be overlooked as it did reveal some important details about the team and what might be coming next.

Saldana’s final outing as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 can be seen on the big screen when the film opens in theaters on May 5 — and you may want to stick around after the movie concludes as Gunn has confirmed the number of post-credits scenes that will follow.
