Following the announcement of Star Wars: Outlaws at the Xbox Showcase, Ubisoft revealed the first gameplay trailer at Ubisoft Forward. The nearly 10-minute clip showed off everything from combat to space dogfights in what’s looking to be an expansive, open-world adventure.
Star Wars: Outlaws stars new hero Kay Vess, an outlaw who runs odd jobs for the criminal underworld. The clip begins with Kay sneaking into a hideout, seemingly looking for some kind of loot. The action jumps from stealth to an all-out firefight, showing how Kay can approach combat with different techniques depending on the situation.
With the action getting too hot, Kay and her companion, Nix, make an escape using hoverbikes, shooting some other bad guys along the way.
Wanted and dangerous
The gameplay deep dive also confirmed there will be branching dialogue options. When Kay returns with the stolen goods, she finds herself in a sticky situation with an Imperial officer. Saying the wrong thing will end with Kay getting a “Wanted” label similar to Grand Theft Auto. This means the Imperials will be on her tail, as we see as she makes her escape off-world.
It appears that there will be full space travel in Star Wars: Outlaws as Kay hops on her ship and jumps into hyperspace, but not before shooting down some Imperial tie-fighters, which again are chasing her because of how poorly the interaction went with the Imperial officer.
Star Wars: Outlaws was first revealed during Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase, confirming that Ubisoft Massive’s long-awaited dive into the Star Wars universe would focus on scoundrels.
While the cinematic trailer was certainly intriguing, the gameplay deep dive at Ubisoft Forward answered a lot of questions, and we can’t wait to see even more when Star Wars Outlaws is released sometime in 2024.
