EXCLUSIVE: India vs England Tests – England will try to stop us but we have our plans for them too, says Umesh Yadav | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The wounds would have healed, but the scars of losing the Test series against India, in February-March, earlier this year, must still be there for Team England.
Now, Joe Root’s men are set to host India in a five-match Test series, starting July 4, and the Three Lions will seek revenge and will look to settle the score against the Virat Kohli-led side.
England had won the opening Test in the series played in India, in Chennai by 227 runs but went on to lose the remaining three Tests and surrendered the series 1-3.
India pacer Umesh Yadav knows England will try their level best to stop India but the speedster feels India have the upper hand.
“England came to India and suffered defeat. Now, we are going to play them in their own land. I am sure they must be having a lot of plans to stop us. They will try to win the series. But the way we are going forward, winning and performing, I am confident that we will defeat them,” Umesh told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.

India will kick off their five-Test series campaign on Wednesday, with the first Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The second Test (Aug 12 – Aug 16) will be played at Lord’s, the third (Aug 25 – Aug 29) at Headingley, the fourth (Sep 02 – Sep 06) at Kennington Oval, and the fifth Test (Sep 10 – Sep 14) at Old Trafford.
India have so far won a Test series in England thrice – in 1971 (under Ajit Wadekar’s captaincy), in 1986 (under Kapil Dev’s captaincy), and in 2007 (under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy). After 2007, India toured England three times (2011, 2014, and 2018), but failed to add another series win on English soil to that list.
Umesh, who has played 48 Tests in his career so far and claimed 148 wickets, including three 5-wicket and one 10-wicket haul, has the experience of playing in England. He was part of the India squad, led by Kohli, in England in 2018. He played just one Test match (Edgbaston Test) and claimed three wickets. He had dismissed Jonny Bairstow in the first innings and then sent Sam Curran and Adil Rashid back to the hut in the second innings.
Excited about playing his second series in England, Umesh says India have match-winners and experienced players who can turn the tide in favour of the visitors during the matches.

“It will be a close fight in England. I am really excited and looking forward to taking as many English wickets as possible. We also have our plans for them (England batsmen),” the 33-year-old further told TimesofIndia.com.
“As a team, we are growing together. Some years back, there was a lot of chopping and changing that happened. Now, everything is in place. Thanks to our captain (Virat Kohli) and coach (Ravi Shastri), the team has settled down now. We have players who have played almost 50 plus Tests. We have a mature and well-balanced side. We all know what we have to do. Every player in the team is ready for a last-minute call-up and is confident of performing,” Umesh signed off.
