ETMarkets Investors’ Guide: Is it finally time for banks to buckle up and start rallying? | The Economic Times Podcast

Welcome to ETMarkets’ Investors Guide, a show about asset classes, market trends, and investment opportunities. This is Bhaskar Dutta.

Market has been extremely choppy over the past few weeks. Hawkish commentaries from central banks, interest rate hikes, rising bond yields and selling from foreign investors have hurt the market. Many are keeping away from the market as there is no certainly which way it will go in the near term.

ETMarkets’ Shubham Raj caught up with Shibani Kurian, Head of Research, Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company, to decode the panic on Dalal Street, and what could be the way forward.

The money manager believes choppiness may continue in near term as valuations are still expensive compared to emerging market peers, but long-term structure is still bullish. She also talked about her analysis of Q4 earnings of India Inc.

Kurien outlined major factors that have been plaguing the banking sector, and if you should invest in them. Besides she also talked about pockets of the market where value is emerging right now.

Listen in!

Q. There is a lot of choppiness. How do you read markets? How do you see it panning out?

Q. Where do you see value emerging after Q4 earnings are over?

Q. RBI is likely to raise rates again next week. Do you think it failed to act at an appropriate time and thus it now has to compensate for that?

Q. Banking is one sector that has been talked about a lot but has delivered dismal returns in near terms. In the changing interest rate environment, can we see a rally in them?

Q. What will be your advice to investors – buy right now, or sit on cash until a clarity emerges?

Thank you Shubham and Ms Kurian for a very intriguing conversation.
