FromSoftware has had one of its biggest launches ever in Japan as Elden Ring approaches almost 280,000 sales on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
As one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, Elden Ring continues to live up to its near-perfect Metacritic score. Not only has the new Souls game smashed expectations in Japan alone, but Elden Ring also continues to peak on Steam, recently breaking its own concurrent record player count with well over 800,000 active players.

Elden Ring Approaches 280,000 Sales In Japan On PlayStation
According to a report by Famitsu, Elden Ring took the number one and two spots in software sales in Japan between February 21st and February 27th. Given that the title only launched on February 25th, this is quite an impressive feat and is likely much higher in sales by now.
Between the aforementioned dates, Elden Ring reportedly sold a total of 188,490 copies on the PlayStation 4, taking the number one spot in software sales in Japan for that week. Whilst the PlayStation 5 version of the RPG game sold 90,017 copies, taking the number two spot.
The combined numbers means Elden Ring sold a total of 278,507 units in its opening week in Japan, not taking into account the Xbox and PC sales too.

Prior to the release of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, FromSoftware completed the Dark Souls trilogy with the release of Dark Soul III in 2019. As reported by AOTF, Dark Souls III sold an impressive 210,000 units on the PlayStation 4 during its opening week in Japan.
It’s fair to say that this goes to show that Elden Ring is certainly living up to the hype and could quite easily become FromSoftware’s biggest game of all time.
Elden Ring is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
