Elden Ring Earns George R.R. Martin His Third Nebula Award

Elden Ring is the game that just keeps on winning. A year after its release, it won the 2023 Nebula Award for best writing in a video game.

The award went to both Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin, both of whom had played a major part in the game’s writing and narrative. This isn’t the first time Martin has won a Nebula Award, but this is the first time Miyazaki has been nominated for one. Martin has been nominated 13 times throughout his career and has won three awards. In 1979, he earned a Nebula Award for a story called Sandkings, and then again in 1985 for Portraits of His Children.

The Nebula Awards is an annual award event that honors science fiction and fantasy writers. It was founded in 1965 and has over 2,000 members who are “leading writers” in the genre. The awards given out include categories like Best Novel, Best Script, Best Game Writing, and more.
