At Lok Nayak Hospital, 16 people who were injured during the unprecedented fury were admitted to the emergency department on Monday. The medical director of the hospital, Dr Suresh Kumar, said that nine of them sustained bone injuries in separate incidents and were still undergoing treatment.
“Seven patients got discharged on Tuesday, they had minor injuries. However, nine patients who suffered bone injuries, including fractures, are still undergoing treatment at the hospital. Three of them have multiple injuries and are sick. Some of the patients were stuck inside their cars after tree branches fell on them and had to break windows to come out. They got injuries from shattered panes,” added the director.
Of those admitted at the hospital, 12 are males, three females and one 14 years old boy.
Dr BL Sherwal, medical director at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, said that around 25 patients turned up at the emergency ward following injuries received due to the storm-induced incidents on Monday evening. “However, none of the cases are serious. Most of them have got minor injuries and many have already been discharged,” he added.
At AIIMS trauma care centre, two people turned up, of whom, one has already been discharged. “There is one patient in the ventilation but not critical. He will be discharged after he recovers,” said a senior doctor from the facility.
Monday’s thunderstorm left two people dead in the city, which includes a 50-year-old man from the Jama Masjid area after a portion of the balcony of a neighbouring house fell on him when he was standing outside his residence. Another fatality was reported from the Angoori Bagh area of North Delhi, where a 65-year-old homeless man identified as Basir Baba died after a peepal tree came crashing down on him.
