There’s a new update on the sequel to Keanu Reeves’ 2005 DC film Constantine that reaffirms that the film is happening. Not a lot has ever been revealed about it, but Keanu Reeves has long been known to trying to make this film.
Constantine 2 is confirmed to be happening
Following reports that Reeves’ attempts to make Constantine 2 had been extinguished by the lack of interest from Hollywood, it was confirmed last September that the sequel had finally received a green light from Warner Bros. Reeves was reported to be set to return as John Constantine, with Francis Lawrence directing and Akiva Goldsman producing.
However, earlier this year, when the DC reboot by James Gunn and Peter Safran was announced, it once again shook the fate of the sequel that was reportedly in the works. And now, with the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike, which has put multiple projects on hold, we once again asked about the status of Constantine 2. We now have an update from producer Akiva Goldsman, who is also writing the script for the film.
Latest update
In his latest appearance on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy, Goldsman implied that the story was already in place after discussion with Lawrence and Reeves, but had to be put on hold before writing it all down due to the strike.
“My pens are down, so there’s nothing to do. But, yeah, those are the next things I’m writing when I’m allowed to write again,” Goldsman said. “And I had already begun ‘[I Am] Legend 2’ when we [started striking], and Frances [Lawrence], Keanu [Reeves], and I have broken ‘Constantine 2.’ I just haven’t started typing yet.”
