Common mistakes to avoid when you are preparing for JEE main exams

Slogging for considerable amount of hours with a pencil in hand is not a recipe for success. It is suggested that you implement the right technique and follow the right process to achieve success. Any mistakes in this regard will not yield to positive results but lead to poor finishing.

More importantly since it is a consequence it would be better if you could break it. The same logic tends to exist when it is a competitive exam like the JEE main. So as to put the best foot forward, you have to implement the right technique. Opting wrong methods of  preparation  will hamper your progress. It will lead to stress and have an impact on your overall experience. For JEE mains always prepare from NCERT chemistry class 11 books since they are rated to be the best. Below are mentioned a few mistakes that the students need to avoid during the time of JEE main preparation.

Not focussing on the basics

It is strongly voiced that students should stick to NCERT books class 11 chemistry during the course of their preparation. They may head towards reference books once their course is complete. The syllabus of  the class 11 and 12 books are an integral part of  JEE main exams. While studying for your board exams you need to ensure that you are revising the topics in the same manner. If there is an exam that is fast approaching, it is better that you may solve the question papers from the previous years and then revise the topics specifically.

Lacking conceptual guidance

A trend that is visible is that students prefer a method based approach rather than applying a conceptual understanding over the topics. At an initial level such an approach may suffice, but it may become an issue for the students at a later stage, despite being framed on similar lines the question paper if it is old fashioned becomes difficult to understand. It is always better to apply concepts in each and every topic that you are studying.

Do not fall into traps

The moment students practice similar questions regularly, a tendency develops where they are able to interpret and solve problems based on the method of self- interpretation. Coming to multiple choice questions they are framed in a deceptive manner. Make sure that you read and understand the questions properly before you attempt them. Since they are supplemented with negative answers do not mark them as there is a negative mark for a wrong answer.

Keep away from silly mistakes. It is better to perform well in sample tests and drill papers as to some extent students become self- confident. This results in major mistakes and a lot of time is wasted on the calculations part. There is no point to lose focus when you are solving a question paper in the first place.

It makes sure that the solution has been solved properly at each and every step. During the course of an exam the students avoid the long questions since they feel it takes  a lot of time. But the basic belief is that the long questions are relatively easy to solve. So do not ignore or give it a miss.

Giving up on your hobbies

In an attempt to fully focus on their studies students end up leaving their hobbies or activities that they love to indulge. An approach of this stature could reduce enthusiasm , build up the stress levels thereby it leads to a poor performance.

With a stress free approach you are able to grasp topics in a better way. The moment you engage in physical activities it enables you to maintain a healthy lifestyle that is of importance during the time of preparing for exams. It would be better if students enrol themselves in activities like yoga, spa etc. to keep their mind fresh.

Do not doubt your own abilities

This is one of the major blunders that students commit during the course of their examinations. If you give doubts to your own abilities it would lead to frustration and sets a scenario where there is a lack of confidence. Have a positive mind- set and trust yourself to the best of your abilities. To be doing well implement a goal oriented strategy. For students who are not able to deal with such issues they need to formulate a long term goal strategy. Going forward you may decrease the time period in between. But make sure that it is not something that should not be done in the last 15 days.
