Clubhouse is no longer an invite-only app, open for all – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Audio-only social networking app Clubhouse was launched last year and the app managed to gain a lot of popularity in one year. Initially available only on iOS, the app expanded to Android recently. Now, the invite-only app is out of beta and is open for everyone.
Clubhouse co-founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth announced that the app no longer needed invites. Along with this, the app has also got a new logo and a new website. The app gets a new icon every month and this month’s icon is Justin ‘Meezy’ Williams, an entrepreneur, the manager of 21 Savage, one of the most prominent operators in the Atlanta music scene.
In a blog post the company said, “The invite system has been an important part of our early history. By adding people in waves, welcoming new faces each week in our Wednesday Orientations, and talking with the community each Sunday in Town Hall, we’ve been able to grow the Clubhouse in a measured way, and keep things from breaking as we’ve scaled.”
“But we’ve always wanted Clubhouse to be open. Everyone in the world should have access to meaningful conversations. And the best rooms in Clubhouse are the ones where you meet people from far outside your social circle,” added the company.
Last week, Clubhouse introduced its private messaging feature — Backchannel. Using the new feature, users can chat one-on-one and in groups and can also send links in Clubhouse. To start a DM or Backchannel, you have to find a paper airplane like icon on anybody’s profile page or swipe right from the main menu. Presently, the feature does not allow users to delete messages, so message carefully.
