KOLKATA: Schools affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have submitted classes XI and XII scores of students who were to appear for ISC, the Class XII board exams. For those who had migrated to CISCE from other boards, like CBSE and state, their Class X results were given to the council. CISCE already has the Class X scored of students who had appeared for ICSE, its Class X board exam.
The marks tally may allow the council to draw up a formula to prepare the ISC marksheet, utilizing the appraisals done over three years. Earlier this month, the council had announced the cancellation of ISC exams, citing the pandemic.
The Central Board of Secondary Examinations (CBSE) has already worked out a marking formula for Class XII boards students and will submit it to the Supreme Court on Thursday. School heads believe CBSE could give 30% weightage each to the CBSE X board exam and Class XI final exam
scores, while the rest (40%) could be given to the Class XII pre-board exam marks. Schools feel other exams taken in classes XI and XII should also be considered by the board. Recently, some principals of schools in the city were contacted for their opinions on this formula. “We have pointed out the importance of including the Class X boards marks as part of the rationalisation formula,” said a principal.
Though CISCE has not given any official confirmation, the council may also consider Class X boards marks and scores of all exams taken in classes XI and XII. Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of CISCE, said the matter was sub judice and nothing could be said about how the results would be drawn up or the deadline for the declaration of the results. He declined to comment on the reports that were doing the rounds that ISC results would be out on July 20.
Unconfirmed reports said the council might consider students’ performance since 2015, when they were in Class VI. But most schools ruled out the possibility and said Class X board results would be the maximum distance the council could stretch to devise the formula.
Sujoy Biswas, principal of Ram Mohan Mission, a CISCE-affiliated school, said all documents that were asked from his institute had been sent on time and further instructions were awaited. Richard Gasper, head of St Augustine’s Day School, Kolkata, also confirmed that all details were sent by him on time and now the details of the formula are awaited. Loveleen Saigal, principal of Birla High School, also affiliated to CBSE, said that all marks of practical exams and projects had been sent to the board by the deadline of June 11. “Apart from that, we are yet to be asked to send other marks. Things will become clear after the formula is submitted to the SC and approved and then sent to us by the board,” she said.
The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education faces an even tougher challenge as a majority of students have not been assessed since January 2020. An expert committee has been formed to arrive at a formula to declare the results of the Class XII board exams, Higher Secondary, though the details are yet to reach the respective school heads.
