NEW DELHI: Indian teenage chess sensation Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is currently playing the final of the Chessable Masters online tournament.
Here’s everything you need to know about this tournament and the tour it is a part of:
– The Chessable Masters online tournament is a part of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. It is a 9-month series of nine online chess tournaments featuring some of the world’s top players, who play for a prize money pool of US$1.6 million. The tour started on February 19, 2022 and will run till November 20, 2022.
– India’s teenage Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa (16 years old) has reached the final of the tournament and is up against Chinese world No.2 Ding Liren. Ding won the first finals match 2.5-1.5 (Finals Match 1)
– Finals Match 2 will be played on Thursday at 6 PM Central European Time or 9:30 PM IST.
– If needed a tiebreaker will be played to decide the winner of the tournament
– This is the first all-Asian final of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour.
– The Chessable Masters is leg 4 of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. The overall Tour winner in November will be crowned the world’s best online chess player.
– There are 9 tournaments in the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour: 6 labelled as Regular and 3 labelled as Major. The Chessable Masters, running from May 19-26, is a Regular tournament.
– The total prize pool for a Regular tournament is $150,000. $10,000 is awarded for winning a final, $9,000 for winning a semifinal, $4,000 for winning a quarterfinal and $2,000 are awarded for reaching the quarterfinals.
– Sixteen of the world’s best chess stars have gathered to compete for a prize pot of up to $150,000 in the Chessable Masters.
– Reigning five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen leads the Tour overall having won two of the first three events.
