IGN can exclusively debut the new trailer and poster for the upcoming psychological horror film birth/rebirth, described as a contemporary reimagining of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The trailer can be viewed via the player above or the embed below.
Laura Moss makes their directorial debut on birth/rebirth, which they also co-wrote with Brendan J. O’Brien. Next Exit director Mali Elfman is among the film’s producers. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it garnered critical praise and currently has a 95% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The cast includes Marin Ireland, Judy Reyes, A.J. Lister, Breeda Wool, Monique Gabriela Curnen, and LaChanze.
Here’s the official plot synopsis to shed more light on how birth/rebirth reworks Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale of a human playing God:
“Rose (Marin Ireland) is a pathologist who prefers working with corpses over social interaction. She also has an obsession — the reanimation of the dead. Celie (Judy Reyes) is a maternity nurse who has built her life around her bouncy, chatterbox six-year-old daughter, Lila (A.J. Lister).
When one tragic night, Lila suddenly falls ill and dies, the two women’s worlds crash into each other. They embark on a dark path of no return where they will be forced to confront how far they are willing to go to protect what they hold most dear.”

IFC Films and Shudder will release birth/rebirth in theaters on August 18.
