A former DICE employee has claimed that Battlefield 2042 was failed to doom from the launch itself. As part of a recent Twitter trend, several game developers have been sharing the lowest rated games they have worked on alongside the thing that they most like about it.
Epic Games Senior Backend Engineer Joakim Bodin also took part by letting everyone know that he worked on Battlefield 2042 as a Senior Software Engineer at DICE. As seen in the screenshot as part of the tweet, the latest iteration of the FPS franchise received poor response from fans and critics. The game currently has a score of 68 for its PC version on Metacritic.
This game had many iterations, and the deadline never changed much, so never stood much chance being great at launch.
I’m proud though to have pushed hard to have this game have full cross play, progression and (mostly) commerce. It’s online systems will serve future titles well https://t.co/l6tbqFhzgz pic.twitter.com/kCUx77aGqF

Problems with Battlefield 2042; details
Prior to Battlefield 2042’s launch in November 2021, several reports detailed troubled development at EA and DICE. Despite garnering a ton of hype following its epic first trailer, fans were disappointed from the final product.
In his tweet, Bodin shared a similar sentiment about the troubled development causing Battlefield 2042’s failure. He noted that a lot of elements in the game were changed, even though deadlines didn’t change much.
However, he lauded the game’s attempts at creating a massive game with cross play feature on all platforms. He also appreciating Battlefield 2042’s progression and commerce functionality. He believes that the game’s online system will serve as a major framework for future Battlefield titles.
It’s been over a year and a half since Battlefield 2042 released, and a lot has changed about the game. However, DICE is yet to capture an audience for the game. In the end, it seems like we might have to wait until the next Battlefield iteration for something that meets the expectations from fans.
