Avatar 2 Is Now the 4th Top Grossing Film After Surpassing Star Wars: Force Awakens and Avengers: Infinity War

Avatar: The Way of Water is an unstoppable juggernaut at the box office. The James Cameron film has taken the world by storm and is dominating the box office for over a month now.

The fantasy adventure film has now become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time. According to Variety, Avatar: The Way of Water now has a box office total of $2.075 billion. This means that the film has surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ record of $2.071 billion record from 2015.

Not only that, the film even surpassed the second-highest grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is Avengers: Infinity War. The film may even take over Titanic’s record, as it only needs to earn $120 million to take the third spot. This comes just a week after the film left behind another big name in the MCU franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

James Cameron had said that Avatar: The Way of Water will have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film of all time to break even. This also extends Zoe Saldaña’s record. The films she has starred in have made nearly $14 billion at the box office.

Avatar: The Way of Water also became the highest grossing Hollywood film in India, and was granted an extension to its theatrical run in China. The director also recently discussed which character will take on the role of the franchise’s new narrator in future films.
