St Aloysius College completed its first-semester exam and is due for evaluation. A source told STOI, “The exams were conducted smoothly, and the new system was well implemented. The evaluation process will commence soon.”
For the 40 internal marks, students had to participate in group projects and appear for two internal assessment examinations that have multiple-choice questions and submit assignments. The earlier system had only two internal assessment exams and assignments to be submitted. “We will soon finalise the syllabus for third and fourth semesters,” the source added.

At the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, first-semester examination under NEP was completed on Saturday. The theory paper was reduced to 150 minutes. Vineetha Rai, registrar (evaluation), said a lot of non-Kannadiga students have opted for Kannada language in the first semester which is a welcome trend. When it comes to internal marks, the college has awarded marks for student visits to tribal areas as part of surveys, creating promo videos and powerpoint presentations.

At St Agnes College, the examination ends this month. Sister Venessa, principal, said the theory examination duration is reduced to 120 minutes. “Overall, it was a smooth transition,” she said. Meanwhile, a few lecturers felt that it would take some time to adjust to the syllabus under NEP-2020. “The concept is good but was implemented in a hurry without much homework. The colleges including private, aided and government ones were not well-prepared and there was confusion regarding the syllabus,” said a lecturer at an autonomous college.

A government college lecturer said the success of NEP-2020 will be known only when a candidate has graduated from an institution, adding, “Till then, there is no clarity on the outcome of the new pattern. We are doing our best.” Mangalore University will commence the first semester under NEP and other semester exams (old pattern) from April 6.
