Apple Self Service Repair announced: What it means for users, when will it come to India, Apple devices covered and more – Times of India

Apple Self Service Repair program is here. This means that Apple device users can now buy genuine Apple device parts and tools to fix their own phones from the company. They can self repair or give it to a local techinician to repair. Here’s all you need to know about the programme:
Why is the news very big
This is a sharp turnaround for a company that has long prohibited anyone but company-approved technicians from repairing its devices.
Are all iPhones part of this programme
No, not all iPhones and Macs. For now it is for users of iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series and Mac computers featuring M1 chips (MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and iMac). There’s no mention of iPads yet.
Where can users buy these parts
Apple will launch an online store for self-service repairs early next year that it says will have more than 200 individual parts and tools for making the most common repairs on the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13.
What parts will the Apple Repair cover
The initial phase of the program will focus on the most commonly serviced modules, such as the iPhone display, battery, and camera. The additional repairs will be available later in 2022.
Can users also take the part to a local shop/mechanic to repair
Yes, users can take the originals parts they buy from Apple to someone else to do the repair.
When will Apple Self Service Repair come to India
Apple Self Service Repair will be available early next year in the US and expand to additional countries throughout 2022. This means that Apple device users in India may get access to the repair programme in second half of 2022.
