apple: Apple could reveal a new iPad mini design this year – Times of India

Tech giant Apple may be working on giving the upcoming iPad mini a design overhaul, if claims by tipster Jon Prosser are to be believed. The iPad mini is one of the few products of Apple that hasn’t seen major design changes over the years in terms of bezel thickness and the home button with the Touch ID. Now, a report by Slashgear, based on the renders by Jon Prosser, says that the iPad mini will be given a revamped design so as to include it in the current design philosophy of the other iPads.
Jon Prosser collated data from multiple leaks and sources to create a render for Apple’s smallest iPad to create a new look for the iPad mini 6. It is very much in line with how the other iPads in the Apple family look. The renders show the tablet as having thin bezels and flat edges. Touch ID has been removed from the home button (which has also been removed) and put with the top button. The device might be given a USB Type-C port too to make file transfer easier. Prosser also hints that the iPad mini 2021 could come with support for Apple Pencil 2 or might even have its own small Pencil, as per the size of the tablet. The colours that the device may launch in are Black, Gold and Silver.
The upcoming iPad mini is expected to come with an 8.4-inch display and be powered by the M1 chip. Apple last refreshed the iPad mini lineup with the iPad mini 5 in March 2019.
Recently, tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple will launch the sixth-generation iPad mini in the second half of 2021. The TF Securities’ analyst included some details about the new iPad mini in a note to the investors. Apple didn’t announce the iPad mini during the Spring Loaded event, only focussing on the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the iMacs, all powered by the tech giant’s own M1 chip. This led to the speculation that perhaps Apple was considering launching the iPad mini later in the first half of 2021. But Kuo’s claim has quashed these rumours, predicting the launch to be deferred to the second half.
