After over three months of outages, the Dark Souls PC servers are still being worked on

As of May 9, Bandai Namco says they’re still being worked on

Sadly, Dark Souls PC servers have been offline for over 90 days now due to a security issue: that’s over three months of downtime for multiple games (Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls 3). In a statement posted on February 9, the publisher provided the following insight: “Due to the time required to set up proper testing environments, online services for the Dark Souls series on PC will not resume until after the release of Elden Ring. We will continue to do everything we can to bring back these services as soon as possible.”

Well, Elden Ring came and went! It’s hard to believe that it’s been three months already, but we’re far beyond the point of “the release of Elden Ring.” So what gives? Well, Bandai Namco is still at it, thanks to a customer service rep email obtained by Redditor Relevant-Heart-1751:

“Thank you for reaching out to us and your interest in the games. I’m getting back to you in regards to your inquiry if [sic] the Dark Souls servers for the PC will be back online. I’m happy to confirm that the developers are actively working on resolving the issue in question and re-launching the Dark Souls servers for PC as soon as possible. For the moment, we do not have an estimate of when this is expected to happen, however I encourage you to follow us on social media here to stay up to date with all the latest news. Apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.”

It’s a boilerplate response, but it still clues us into a few things. One: there is no window available for when the servers will come back, at least that a customer service rep is able to provide. Two: the issues are still being worked out and aren’t abandoned, as of May 9, 2022.

Fans have also surmised that a number of Elden Ring launch issues took time away from these fixes for older games, which would make sense, given that From Software is hard at work on any number of projects in addition to whatever is next for Elden Ring (whether that’s fixes, updates, or something more). At least we know it’s still a possibility that these old servers will return.
