Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar will set up a regional cancer centre to bring all cancer related facilities under one roof. Besides research, it will have super-speciality units to provide treatment and diagnostic tests.
The hospital authorities made the announcement on the occasion of its 10th foundation day on Friday.
The state government has provided around 26 acres of land to the AIIMS for extension of hospital facilities. It will use this land for building thecancer centre, sources said. It will house departments of medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology and haematology. Necessary equipment will be installed for diagnosis, the sources said.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar medical superintendent Sachidananda Mohanty said a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Dilip Kumar Parida, professor and head of radiotherapy department, to prepare a detailed plan, estimation and report on this project. “After preparing a report, it will be sent to the Centre for approval. After getting approval, we will start the work of this centre,” he added.
He said patients and their attendants are now visiting several departments and facilities for consultation, diagnosis and treatment. “After this centre comes up, it will solve this problem and help the patients and their attendants. Besides, this centre will also help the faculty members for cancer research,” he added.
