The agitating teachers said it is unfortunate that about 40,000 contractual TET teachers, serving in various districts under SSA and State Pool, have been deprived of their dues. Many of these teachers have already devoted 10 years of service to teaching since 2012 but have been compelled to draw their salaries as per the previous ROP, which they alleged have deprived them of salaries that regular teachers draw. If their issues are not resolved within this month, they threatened to resume their protests from April 1 and boycott the upcoming ‘Gunotsav’ in schools.
“We would also like to remind the government that in 2020 a Cabinet decision was taken whereby it was said that these teachers could continue their services till 60 years and would receive all benefits as per regular teachers. Though several rounds of dialogues were initiated and several decisions were taken to resolve these issues, in earnest none of these were actually implemented,” read a memorandum sent to the CM by the teachers.
Several protesters, who gathered in front of the SSA office in Kahilipara here, were detained by the police. They were, however, released later. They said a dialogue with the education minister has also failed to make headway.
Under the aegis of Sadou Asom Prathamik TET- Uttirno Sikshak Samaj (SAPTUSS), they demanded unconditional regularization of our services with pay protection. “In spite of drawing salary as per the state government’s Rate of Payment (ROP) since 2013, we are deprived of the enhanced Dearness Allowance (DA) from 2019. We are still getting DA at the previous rate of 17% and there is no mention of our DA arrear of 30 months since 2019,” said Trailokya Deka, president of SAPTUSS.
They urged the CM to implement the order by the governor of Assam given in 2020 and provide mentioned benefits like, gratuity, NPS, service book and eligibility for state awards among other facilities. “The rules for transfer should be amended to allow the teachers to work in their home districts and mutual transfers between state pool and SSA teachers,” they demanded.
